Ear dams, often called oto-dams or oto blocks, are placed in the ear canal to protect the sensitive tissues of the eardrum from being damaged during the impression taking process.

Foam ear stops provide a good seal and are easy to insert into the ear canal because of the stiffness of the foam. They leave a definite imprint on the end of the impression which makes it easy to determine the best canal angle. They come with a removal string and are available in standard and slim styles.
